A New Model for Retail Training: Executive Education at Scale

The retailing industry is undergoing a period of great change. Factors such as consumers demanding greater quality and customization, globalization increasing competition, and the introduction of new business models ask for rethinking strategy and management.

The Lundgren Center for Retailing at the University of Arizona has trained retail organization leaders on the latest industry trends and technologies for over 20 years. Developed and offered by the Lundgren Center, its Retail Insight course is designed to set a foundation for understanding these changes and challenges by providing a thorough introduction to the key concepts of retailing strategy and management.

In the past, these programs have been limited to in-person programs and conferences. By offering their new Retail Insight program online, their knowledge and insights have become available to retailers around the world, and scalable throughout large organizations.

Scott Hessell is the Director of the Lundgren Center for Retailing and PetSmart Professor of Practice at the University of Arizona. Scott has taught in the program for eight years in a variety of courses including supply chain management, entrepreneurship, and business analysis. Scott has also served as the COO of a medical device manufacturer, consulted with a wide range of companies in business development, operations, and marketing, and founded/co-founded five companies.
Greg Bybee is an education technologist and VP of Marketing and Customer Experience at NovoEd. Greg and his team have designed, built, and launched 500+ training programs reaching over 1.5 million learners. Greg serves on the Board of Directors for Leadership High School and advises startups, software vendors, and investors entering the education space. Previously, he was a Fellow with NewSchools Venture Fund, a PM at Coursera, and a consultant at McKinsey.
